To the FWGNA group:
The fourth biennial symposium of the Freshwater Mollusk Conservation
Society will be held at the Radisson Riverfront Hotel in St. Paul,
Minnesota from May 15 - 18, 2005. The deadline for early
registration is March 27. The deadline for submission of
abstracts is this Friday, December 17!
All the conference details, including downloadable registration forms,
may be obtained from the conference web site:

As many of you are aware, the FMCS emerged from a pair of symposia
organized by the Upper Mississippi River Conservation Committee in 1993
and 1997 entitled "The Conservation and Management of Freshwater
Mussels." So the upcoming meeting in St. Paul represents a return
to the Midwestern roots of the organization. There aren't any
special sessions planned for freshwater gastropods, as far as I
know. But to be fair, the FMCS organized a workshop entirely
dedicated to freshwater snails just this past March. So it only
seems fair to let the mussels have their day in the limelight.
I'd encourage any worker to attend this meeting who has a general
interest in the conservation of our freshwater biota. What's good
for the mussels is good for the snails, right? If you have
questions, the conference chair is Kurt Welke, who can be reached at:
