SAMUEL M. PIERCE (Modern America, Spanish Literature, Modern European History) received his Ph.D. from University of Florida in 2007.

He taught at Brigham Young University for a year before joining the College of Charleston. His dissertation is entitled Political Catholicism in Spain's Second Republic (1931-1936): The Confederacion Espanola de Derechas Autonomas in Madrid, Seville, and Toledo.

He was awarded the Milbauer Disseration Prize at the University of Florida for best dissertation in history in 2007.
Dr. Pierce was also awarded a Fulbright Fellow in 2004-2005 for research in Madrid, Seville and Toledo, Spain.

His journal article entitled " The Political Mobilization of Catholic Women in Spain's Second Republic: The CEDA, 1931–1936" is forthcoming in the Journal of Contemporary History.
