Professor Slater received her
Ph.D. from University of Kentucky. Professor Slater's dissertation is entitled "The Making of Men: Comparative Constructions of Military Masculinities in the New World "

Professor Slater is currently co-editing a volume of collected essays entitled "Gender and Sexuality in Native North American Societies, 1400-1840", University of Oklahoma Press.

Her essay "Creating Race in the Early Modern French Atlantic World, 1700-1815" will be published by the University of Georgia Press.
