Ping-Yuan Wang , Visiting Assistant Professor
(Early Modern European History, Economy, Society, and State Formations, Protestant and Catholic Reformations)

Dr. Wang received her Ph.D. from Yale University in 2009. Her dissertation is entitled "Writing Lives and Defining Community: Cloistered Women in the Catholic Reformation," which examines nuns' self-representation as revealed in writings about everyday convent life in seventeenth-century Europe. More broadly, she explores how religious institutions and religiosity helped to shape notions of the self and community in an age when Catholicism was at once reformed domestically and spreading globally.

Dr. Wang's work "Mulieres Religiosae: Shaping Female Spiritual Authority"has been accepted for publication by Brepols Publishers.

She was the recipient of the Advanced Studies Abroad Scholarship, Ministry of Education, Taiwan, 2006-2007 and 2007-2008. She was also awarded the University Dissertation Fellowship, Yale University, 2007-2008.
