Annual Awards

Outstanding Student I
Presented each year to a graduating senior with the highest overall Grade Point Average and fifteen hours or more in history.

Outstanding Student II
Presented each year to a graduating senior with a overall Grade Point Average of 3.5 (cum laude) combined with service to the history program and organizations.

Departmental Honors
Presented each year to a graduating senior with an earned grade point average in the major of 3.5 showing exceptional work in Independent Study, Research Seminar, Senior Paper, or Bachelor's Essay.

The George and Agnes Heltai Award:
This award is presented annually to a graduating senior whose academic achievement in history merits high distinction. The award is a $500 check and a scholarly book. (funded) Daughters of the American Revolution The Rebecca Motte Chapter: The William Moultrie Cup presents this engraved cup to a major who has excelled in Advanced American History courses.

American Federation of Women's Clubs History Prize:
The Charleston Chapter presents this award to a female student who has achieved the highest honors in American History 201 and 202.



 

History Scholarships

Society of First Families of South Carolina Scholarship:
Presented to a junior with an interest in South Carolina History, 1670-1700. This is a $1000. scholarship. awarded by the Society of First Families.

Albert R. Simonds Special Merit Scholarship in Historyry:
This scholarship is a monetary award given to a rising senior based on academic excellence in the major. (funded)

Alexander C. Dick Endowed Scholarship in Pre-Law:
Presented to a student with a double major in history and political science major who intends to study law.

The Douglas & Elizabeth Clark Memorial Scholarship in History:
A monetary award presented annually to recognize academic excellence in History. (funded)

The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America Graduate Scholarship:
This scholarship is presented to an outstanding graduate student for high achievement in the American History.

Hibernian Society Scholarship is available to current College of Charleston students.  Students must have completed at least one semester, demonstrate financial need, academic achievement, and intend to remain in the Charleston area after graduation.
