BIOLOGY 313 (CELL BIOLOGY)

Welcome to the home page for Biology 313 at the College of Charleston.  Cell biology is taught by Dr. Mark Lazzaro, who joined the College in Fall, 1999.  The course is taught both fall and spring semester and has an optional lab (2 sections).  Lecture enrollment is limited to about 40 students.  Lab sections are limited to 12 students.

This course focuses on the structure and function of cells.  Specific topics include cell metabolism, membrane organization, organelles, compartmentation, membrane trafficking, the cytoskeleton, cell division, and cell signalling.  We move along at a senior level in this course.  Exams are challenging.  You need to know detail and be able to think analytically.  Lecture notes, previous exam questions, and exam answer keys are available on a secure website maintained by the College of Charleston library as part of the electronic reserve system.

UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH
Are you interested in doing undergraduate research in cell biology?  Actual research experience is a great way to see if you really like working in a lab and it looks fabulous on your applications to post graduate programs.
VISITING CAMPUS
If you are visiting the campus you are welcome to sit in on a lecture or stop by the lab.  Feel free to contact Dr. Lazzaro.   Learn more about the Biology Department.
