Famous Biologists

Welcome to the Lazzaro Lab site of famous scientists.  These are people that are really into biology, but also know how to have a good time.

While on the faculty in the Department of Botany at Stockholm University (1994-1999), I was able to take two mini sabbaticals.  One was to the University of Siena, where I worked with Mauro Cresti.  The other was to the University of Massachusetts where I worked with Peter Hepler.

Before moving to Stockholm, I was a post doc with Leah Haimo at the Department of Biology, University of California-Riverside (1992-1994).  There I worked on how the cytoskeleton controls pigment granule motility in melanophores from fish epidermis.

I got my Ph.D. and M.S. with Bill Thomson in the Department of Botany and Plant Sciences at University of California-Riverside (1986-1992).  I studied the cell structure and function of secretory hairs in plants.  A lot of my fellow grad students at UCR have gone on to big and exciting jobs in science.  Here are some of their web pages:

Tim Holtsford (University of Missouri) Merri Lynn Casem (California State Univ-Fullerton)
Ron Balsamo (Villanova University) Amy Beth Cohen (California State Univ-Fullerton)
Cathy Thaler (Stanford-Hopkins Marine Station) Kanwarpal Dhugga (Pioneer Hi-Bred International)
Dave Garvin (University of Minnesota) Bill Crone (Hudson Valley Community College)
Eric Stockinger (Ohio State University) Tom Dallman (BioVeo)
John Nason (Iowa State University) Page Owen (Connecticut College)

I did my undergraduate studies in plant biology at Cornell University. Karl Niklas was my faculty advisor and I did an undergraduate research project with Dominick Paolillo.
