Admission Criteria
Requirements for admission into the M.Ed. in Languages are as follows:
Language teachers with a valid teaching certificate from any state in the
appropriate language are admitted as long as they have a bachelor’s degree
or its equivalent and a GPA of at least 2.5 on a 4-point scale.
Other applicants will be considered (e.g. graduates of foreign universities, private school language teachers without certification) on a case-by-case basis by the program Admissions Committee, which will apply the following criteria:
- An undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university,
with minimum GPA of 2.5.
- At least 30 hours of undergraduate course work, or an approved
equivalent from a foreign university, in the relevant language area.
- Two letters of recommendation.
- If English is not the primary language of the applicant, evidence
of command of English such as a TOEFL score of 550 or greater is required.
Transfer Credit: A maximum of nine graduate credit hours can be transferred into the program. All transfer credit requests will be evaluated by the program director.
Provisional Admission: Students who do not meet the requirements for admission may be admitted provisionally until the deficiencies are corrected. Conditions of provisional acceptances that lead to degree status will be clearly outlined for applicants by the program's Admissions Committee.
