Masters of Environmental Studies Student Association Overview

Mission Statement
The mission of MESSA is to enhance the educational experience of MES students through social, volunteer, and professional-development events; to serve students in need of support; and to promote environmental awareness on the College of Charleston campus and local community.

The Master's of Environmental Studies Student Association (MESSA) is a graduate student organization of the College of Charleston. 

Membership

Membership in MESSA is open to all College of Charleston students enrolled in the Master of Environmental Studies (MES) program, MES alumni, faculty, associates of the MES program who are not faculty, as well as any other interested student, graduate or undergraduate in the purpose of this organization.

Meetings

MESSA holds informal meetings on the last Tuesday of every month, which are open to all environmental studies students and faculty, as well as individuals interested in the activities of the program or the organization.

Highlights of Our Involvement on Campus
- Members participate in the President's Sustainability Committee

- Entries into the annual Graduate Student Poster Symposium (our own Katie Luciano was a winner for 2009)

- Earth Awareness Day - annual street fair dedicated to environmental issues

- Sponsor opportunities for students to hear presentations by environmental groups around the area   

- MESSA members actively serve as executive officers and representatives to the Graduate Student Association at CofC.

- Adopt-a-Highway (Rt. 61)

- South Carolina Oyster Restoration Project (SCORE)

- Clean City Commission

- Beach Sweep

- Charleston County Green Fair

- Earth Day at Hampton Park

-Host the annual MESSA 8k for H20
