One of my favorite quotes from Abraham Lincoln is, “I will prepare and some day my chance will come.” Give us the privilege to help you prepare and together we can achieve great things.
As a forward-looking business school, we are committed to innovation to meet the challenges of today’s dynamic environment.
Everything we do is viewed through a worldly lens. Why? Because 96 percent of the world’s population lives beyond U.S. borders and most of what American businesses do today are impacted in some way from non-U.S. entities. Consider how businesses are influenced by culture clashes, foreign manufacturing opportunities, joint ventures, direct investment in the U.S. and abroad, strategic alliances and political climates.
We are a global player yet a community resource. The expertise of area business leaders is invaluable to us. In our halls, CEOs and company presidents are commonplace, sharing their expertise and secrets of success. Our faculty and staff serve the regional business needs by offering professional development programs and conducting research to support key industries such as hospitality, tourism and real estate. At the end of the day, we all benefit through collaboration.
The School of Business continues to integrate state-of-the-art technologies into our classrooms while recognizing the importance of “the personal touch” so face-to-face teaching to small groups of students will always be an integral part of what we do. Simultaneously, we are increasing our investment in distance education tools to satisfy the needs of our global students at other institutions.
I invite you to explore in more detail all of the interesting and challenging academic programs that we offer. Search our web site and ask us questions if something peaks your interest. If you visit the College of Charleston campus, please schedule a tour of the Beatty Center with your campus guide. I think you’ll like what you see.
Thank you,
Alan T. Shao, Dean

Accreditation by AACSB International - The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of
Business promotes continuous quality improvement in management education. The association was founded in 1916, and standards for business administration were first set in 1919. In 1980, AACSB adopted additional standards for undergraduate and graduate degree programs in accountancy to address special needs of the profession. The association regularly reviews accreditation standards for opportunities to improve their relevance and currency.
A collegiate institution offering degrees in business administration or accounting may volunteer for AACSB accreditation review. As a first step, the institution applies for a decision on its eligibility for accreditation. The initial accreditation process includes a self-evaluation, as well as a peer review. Having achieved AACSB accreditation, an institution enters into a program of periodic reviews of strategic improvement progress to maintain its accreditation. AACSB is a not-for-profit corporation of educational institutions, corporations and other organizations devoted to the promotion and improvement of higher education in business administration and accounting.
AACSB supports and upholds the Code of Good Practice for Accrediting Bodies of the
Association of Specialized and Professional Accreditors (ASPA).
