Student Retention

Student support services are an important component of our mission.  The Student Success Center houses the director of academic advising, director of career services and global studies education coordinator for the School of Business and Economics (SBE).

The director of career services provides career and professional development assistance to all SBE majors in addition to managing the internship program.  The global studies education coordinator advises all international business majors and pre-declared majors as well as assisting students with study abroad opportunities. The director of academic advising advises all pre-declared SBE majors, trains faculty advisors, and tracks and monitors academically at-risk students in the SBE.

The admission policy for the SBE is as follows:

The School of Business and Economics has admission standards to attract and retain students with the ability and commitment necessary for success in business and economics. The standards include the following requirements: Completion of the following courses with no grade less than a “C-”:

MATH 104 or 250

*ACCT 203

MATH 105 or 120 or HONS 115

*ACCT 204

ECON 200 or HONS 211

DSCI 232 or HONS 214

ECON 201 or HONS 212

*Note: Economics majors are not required to take ACCT 203 or ACCT 204.

Advising sheets and information for each major within the SBE are available online and in the Student Success Center.  Pre-declared students must attend a mandatory group advising session which reviews the required courses and admission policy and provides them with the tools necessary to successfully navigate the academic degree path.  Students may request individual advising sessions after the initial group session. Once students complete the admission requirements and are officially admitted into the business school they are assigned a faculty advisor. Faculty members maintain posted office hours and are available to meet with students outside of class.

The College has an excellent Center for Student Learning located in the library which includes an accounting lab, math lab, writing lab, speaking lab, language lab, and study skills lab. The College's Center for Disability Services offers guidance to students with documented disabilities.
