The Society for Empirical
Ethics exists to further cooperative research into a empirical foundation for
ethics.
The Society's work is based
on the following assumptions:
- Philosophical ethics
explores, among other things, different conceptions of virtue, human
flourishing, and moral psychology.
- Such ethical theories
can be fruitfully informed by empirical investigation.
- Empirical investigation
into virtue, human flourishing, and moral psychology cuts across traditional
disciplinary boundaries and draws upon the resources of, among others,
philosophy, biology, psychology, sociology, anthropology, economics,
history, comparative literature and comparative religion.
The Society will facilitate
discussion by way of maintaining a website and blog, coordination of research,
and the organization of conferences and sessions at academic conferences.
