Funding for this Project

The Sociology/Anthropology Video Archive Lab was made possible by a private donation given to the department in honor of Dr. John Rashford. The lab has been in operation since March 2004.

Using the Lab

The Video Archive Lab is located at 88 Wentworth in Room 102 B.

Members of the Sociology/Anthropology Department are encouraged to use the Video Lab Exchange Calendar to schedule time in the Video Lab. If you are having difficulty or require scheduling assistance please contact the Sociology/Anthropology office during normal office hours. The office is located at 19 St. Phillips Street and the phone number is 843-953-5738.

Training & Support

  • Computer Failures
    Should there be a problem with the computer hardware in the Soc/Anth video lab please do the following:
    1. Contact the Helpdesk at 953-3375 and request to have a work order generated to have the equipment evaluated. Please make sure you request the work order number over the phone. We will need this to follow up on problems.
    2. Make the Helpdesk Operator aware that there is an image available for the Video Lab. Currently there are 3 backup images available for Helpdesk to use. Copies are on:
      • The Helpdesk Mac Server (Trumbo) labeled as "Soc/Anth Video Lab Image
      • The Wide Spread Panic Drive (Contact Jolanda at 953-5569)
      • The Addlestone Library XServe (Contact Tracy Bates at 953-6503)
    3. Contact Jolanda or Tracy with the work order number generated by Helpdesk.
    4. INFORMATION FOR THE HELPDESK TECHNICIAN
      Print Restoring the System Image for the Helpdesk Technician (Please tape a copy of this procedure to the computer - The Technician needs to be aware that there is an image available for the machine)
  • Other Equipment Failures, Network and Printer Problems

    2. Contact Jolanda with the work order number generated by Helpdesk.
  • Equipment Manuals, Serial Numbers, & Current Software Versions
    1. All Equipment manuals have been scanned and are available to download on the Equipment section of this website
    2. All Equipment serial numbers are available on the Equipment section of this website
    3. A list of current software versions installed on the computer is a available on the Software section of this website
  • Tutorials
    1. Please see the Tutorials section of this website for lab specific tutorials. Hardcopy tutorials are also available in the lab.

    • Batch scan to Adobe Acrobat...
    • Scan and Edit slides, negatives and photos...

    The lab is fully equipped for digital video editing using a Mac G5, media converter, vcr/dvd combo player, digital camcorder and iMovie HD software. Faculty can scan slides, negatives, photos, and documents using the HP batch scanner. In addition to this equipment, there is also a stand-alone VHS duplicating station and a digital video camera available for checkout.
