Crystal Wins
by Larry Fulton, DTM, CL - VP Education & Training

Crystal Campbell represented our CofC Club in both Table Topics and The International Speech competition at the Area 11 Contest last night. Area 11 has five clubs in it.
     And, SHE WON BOTH Contests!
And, she had to beat my good friend, and last year's area, division, district and regional champion and one of the best 9 speakers in the world according to Toastmasters, Jerry Bacon. All of us who watched and heard Crystal were sooo proud. The Table Topics question she was given was: "What would you teach our children today to help make our world better tomorrow?" She drew #1 and was the first Table Topics speaker. When she was given that question, her eyes brightened and she launched into a response as though it was a prepared speech. Not like it was a new subject she'd never thought of before!! As she concluded, there was an applause that went on, and on, and on. I've never seen anything like it. Folks looked at each other, just shaking their heads. You could tell what everyone was thinking: "That can't be beaten." And it wasn't!
In her International Speech, "Been There, Done That, Got A T-Shirt" she spoke about her son Tirrell and related three personal, family experiences. She showed his picture. She captivated the audience with her wonderful humor. Her delivery was perfect in every way. We sat mesmerized with her stories. A truly memorable speech!
Crystal's awards are recognition that are richly deserved. And I think Crystal would want me to point out that it is a great reflection on CofC Toastmasters because of the care and mutual support given Crystal as she has acquired and groomed these skills.
Well done, Crystal. And well done to each of our members for all that you do to contribute to the wonderful, caring atmosphere in which each of us can learn and grow. Yes, we are a special group on campus and in the community.
PS-Put Saturday, March 28 on your calendar as the date of the Division A contest. You'll be privileged to hear Crystal compete again in both Table Topics and the International Speech contest at the next higher level!
